Get an eVisa to Sri Lanka online. It is a mandatory document if you want to enter the country
In 2012 the Sri Lankan Government introduced ETA (the Electronic Travel Authorization), enabling visa applications without visiting an embassy, consulate, or another diplomatic post. Travelers from eligible countries are exempt from the necessity to obtain a regular visa before traveling to Sri Lanka for tourism, business, or transit purpose.
ETA application is entirely online, and its maximum processing time should not take more than 72 business hours. Every ETA applicant needs to cover the service fee of 69 Euro.
Depending on their travel needs, eligible applicants can choose the following types of Sri Lankan electronic visa:
ETA applications can be submitted entirely online using any Internet-connected electronic device. Depending on the selected visa type, you may need to provide slightly different data. For the business visa application, it will be the company details of an applicant and business partner in Sri Lanka. When choosing a tranist ETA visa, it is necessary to provide details on the planned days of stay in Sri Lanka as well as the name of the destination country.
To start submitting your Sri Lanka visa application, go to the application form and choose one travel purpose: Business/Tourism/Transit. Next, follow these few steps:
The approved Sri Lankan visa is delivered via email to the applicant's email address. The standard processing time takes most often, maximally 3 business days. Nevertheless, the exact processing time is at the total discretion of the Sri Lanka immigration officials. That is why it may be prolonged in some particular cases.
Once you receive your approved electronic visa, you do not need to print it out. The Sri Lanka eVisa is automatically linked to the passport used in the online application. Upon crossing the Sri Lankan borders, a traveler will only need to show a valid passport.
ETA application requires an applicant to provide passport data in the online form. Uploading a passport copy or other travel documents is not necessary. Most importantly, the passport cannot expire within at least 6 months from the planned entry date to Sri Lanka. Once the passport of the ETA holder expires or is updated, the Sri Lanka ETA automatically becomes invalid too.
After completing the online application process, the Sri Lankan Government will process your application and issue your ETA within a maximum of 72 hours.
The approved document will reach your email inbox in the form of a PDF file. To add to the ease of the whole process, approved eVisa links directly to the traveller's passport; therefore, eliminating the need to print the received document out.
All you have to do is show your valid passport upon arriving in Sri Lanka and the customs officials will be able to read your Sri Lanka ETA by your passport number.
Make sure to provide a correct passport number when completing your application to avoid any issues with entering Sri Lanka.
